Nurudeen Amadu steps down as Samartex head coach

Nurudeen Amadu has brought an abrupt end to his time with reigning Ghana Premier League champions, FC Samartex.

The seasoned Ghanaian coach, who joined Samartex in July 2023, departed the club on amicable terms after 13 matches into the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.

Having steered the Timber Giants to clinch their maiden Premier League title just a season after being promoted to the top-flight, the Timber Giants have been dismal this term.

They have suffered three successive losses in the top-flight and currently sit in 10th position on the league with 17 points – just five points shy of the drop zone.

Samartex also suffered an early elimination from the MTN FA Cup following a 2-0 loss to arch-rivals Bibiani GoldStars.

Despite a brief tenure with Samartex, Nurudeen has been a blessing in disguise for the Timber Giants.

The coach led the team to their inaugural Ghana Premier League title and a maiden CAF Champions League appearance, although they suffered elimination in the preliminary round against Raja Casablanca.

Regardless of their exit, Samartex made a strong impression on the African stage.

Meanwhile, assistant coach Henry Wellington is expected to take temporal charge until a substantive appointment is made.

Henry is expected to be in the dugout as FC Samartex make a tricky trip to Bechem to face high-flying Bechem United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on the matchday 14.
